Hack the Planet

hack the planet - hackers movie

It’s a phrase that comes from one of my favorite movies of the 90’s Hackers.  The proclamation and call to arms in the film’s climatic scenes and the hackers united at the end to take down the Gibson and save the day.

“This is our world now… the world of the electron and the switch […] We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias… and you call us criminals. […] Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity.”  ~ via Wikipedia

That bit quoted in the film was written in 1986. A day where the barrier to be on the internet was much larger.  Computers were not exciting to those that didn’t have a mind for it.  But now, I saw a new interpretation to that. It spoke to the unlimited potential, and those who were stretching technology to it’s limits.  Those that love solving problems and outsmarting the machine.

Now, “Hacking” could have a new meaning. The gate keepers of media and business made it hard to succeed in the past decades.  Now Youtube stars are on Law & Order, shows are developed from Podcasts, and old stars are rekindling their careers online.

Creators are now hacking the system by using the bandwidth and tools available to everyone, or at a much lower cost than possible.

So go create your thing.  Hack the Planet.
